Privacy Policy

Overview

Maritime Reviewer ("we", "our", "the app") is an educational platform for Filipino seafarers and maritime students. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

Account and Profile

• Email address — for account creation and login
• Name — for display in profiles and leaderboards
• Password — stored securely (hashed); we do not store plain-text passwords

Gamification and Progress

• Study progress — questions answered, correct answers, courses completed (Classic mode only)
• Coins and EXP — earned from correct answers in Classic mode
• Level and rank — derived from your EXP

Location (Optional)

City, region, country — only when you opt in to "Share location for rankings"

• We use your device's location (via GPS) to derive city/region/country for regional and city leaderboards
• We do not track your location continuously — we only request it when you turn on location sharing
• You can disable location sharing anytime in the Rankings screen

Technical

• Device token — for push notifications (if enabled)
• API usage — for rate limiting and abuse prevention

Third-Party SDKs

Our app uses third-party services that may collect data. We disclose data handling for:

• Google AdMob — displays ads; may collect device identifiers and app usage for advertising
• Google Sign-In — for authentication; processes your Google account info
• Google Play Billing — for in-app purchases; processes purchase transactions
• Expo Push Notifications — delivers notifications using your device token

How We Use Your Data

• Account management — login, registration, profile
• Progress tracking — to show your Classic mode stats (coins, EXP, correct answers)
• Leaderboards — to rank you globally, nationally, by region, or by city (when you opt in)
• Gamification — level, app rank, achievements
• Improvements — anonymous analytics to improve the app

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share data only:

• With service providers (e.g. hosting, analytics) under strict contracts
• When required by law or to protect our rights

Data Retention

• Account data — retained while your account is active; deleted when you request account deletion
• Location — stored only while location sharing is enabled; can be cleared when you disable it
• Progress and gamification — retained for as long as your account exists

Security

• Passwords are hashed; we never store plain-text passwords
• API communication uses HTTPS (encryption in transit)
• Sensitive data is stored securely

Your Rights

• Access — request a copy of your data
• Correction — update your profile and preferences
• Deletion — request account and data deletion: Request account deletion
• Opt-out — disable location sharing, notifications, or other optional features anytime
